diy // geometric phone case.
Been obsessing over anything geometric lately. It's my new thayng. Throw in gold accents and pops of color and I'm stupid-in-the-head in love. Oh, yes. Swoon-worthy stuff in Jin's world! So take a wild guess what came to mind when inheriting V's old Galaxy S III (It's no iPhone, but whatevs!) and the once-clear-now-yellowish phone case that came with it. Yup, you've guessed (hopefully) right. That old phone case ain't going nowhere. 'Cause I'm cheap like that. And besides, it's still functional. Just needs a lil cosmetic TLC and a fun geometric pattern, is all!
Materials // Acrylic paints of various colors. (My colors of choice: Champagne, Pure Gold + Seafoam Green.) Small paint brush. Tape. (The not-so-sticky tape works best.) Clear top coat nail polish. Nail polish remover. Q-tips.
How to // 1. Tape desired geometric shapes onto cell phone case. Make sure there are no air bubbles near the edges of the tape. // 2. Dip paint brush into paint and brush away! (In this case, I started with the middle triangle first.) Wait a minute. Then brush another coat of paint. Do as many coats of paint as your lil heart desires. // 3. Immediately remove tapes and wait for paint to dry. (Drying time about 20-30 minutes.) // 4. Brush a coat of nail polish over the painted area. It's ok to brush beyond the painted area! You can always clean up the edges a bit, if you're OCD like me, with Q-tips dipped in nail polish remover. // 5. Now the hard part. The waiting game. Must wait til clear nail polish is completely dry and hard! (This may take hours depending on what kind of top coat you have.) // 6. Waiting, waiting, waiting. Go get a drink. This may take awhile. // 7. Repeat Steps 1-6 for the next geometric shape. // 8. Lastly, a second coat of clear nail polish to seal it all in is optional. But recommended. 'Cause ya never know.
Note: Don't skip a step or two. Don't do it! Trust me. I've learned the hard way, having to start over at least 4 times. That's 3 hours of my life I'll never get back! And be patient! Yes, this DIY will take all day. Maybe 2. Yes, you will get antsy. And yes, you will be glad you've waited.
Mmmmm. Loves me some yummy geometric goodness. Almost hides the fact that it's not an iPhone snuggled up in that 'new' case! Almost!
besos ... jin.
