photo diary // drink and click photowalk @ lucille.

V and I finally made it out to one of these Drink and Click photowalks that Shaggy keeps telling us about. Drinking and shooting and socializing. At the same time. Multitasking at it's finest! And also, best combo evar. This month's challenge: Black and White. Which I must admit, I'm not big into b+w photos (let alone night photography!) and have reservations about it's use, but a challenge is a challenge! Here are some snaps I took from this past Thursday night's photowalk. With colored ones thrown in, of course. ;-)

throwback travel thursdays // morocco 2007.

V and I squeezed in a mini trip to Marrakesh, Morocco in between my move from Salamanca to Madrid back in 2007. (Yes! I was a European for a bit!) Here are a few scenes of our first time in Africa!

{kitchen de ferrer} st. patty's day noms.

What can I say, I'm a sucker for gimmicky holidays. St. Patty's Day no exception. Here are some quick and easy leprechaun snackaroos that my festive little self made throughout the week of. And yah, I'm well aware I'm just now posting this. Procrastinator, I am. Or am I ... uber early? =P

st. patty's day noms.

1 -- Shamrock Chips with Hummus.
Sometimes the simplest of ideas just blows me away, like this recipe from Zakka Life. Simplicity at it's finest. Literally took me less than 10 minutes to make! Serve with your favorite hummus and life is good.

2 -- Mini Green Tea Buttermilk Cuppycakes.
Started off as Mini Green Tea Donuts adapted from A Beautiful Mess's version but had to scrap the whole mini donut idea after a few attempts. There were just too many issues to deal with and in the end, the mini donuts looked like mini cupcakes. So I proceeded down the mini cuppycake route instead. Glad I switched pans! Pot of gold right here, green tea cupcake addicts! I've been trying to find the perfect green tea cupcake recipe for the longest time and this *pointing at pic* is def a keeper. I'm still on the hunt for a light and fluffy green tea frosting recipe, so if ya know of one, send it to this gal. But for now, this Matcha Buttercream Frosting from Matcha Source is actually pretty matchalicious.

Note: The quality of matcha green tea powder does matter! Give Teavana's matcha a go. One of the best powders you'll ever bake with. A bit pricey, but so worth it! Don't thank me. Thank Teavana. ;-)

3 -- Mint Chocolate Chip Pancakes.
Greener and slightly more scrumptious looking pancakes can be seen here by Love and Olive Oil. This pancake griddlin' business, man. It's truly a skill. One I have no patience for. But for those who are like me and can't stand cooking/baking for more than 30 minutes - bad news. There really is no way out of this one. (As if my pic evidence wasn't enough.) So turn that high heat down to medium and wait it out!

Note: Go on and add more mint extract than what the recipe calls for if you're into mint as much as I am. The amount of mint in the recipe was a little too subtle for my liking. So mint away!

4 -- Lucky Charms + Matcha Green Tea Latte.
This really needs no words. Another simple idea with a huge holiday impact. And why not take that green milk to the next level with a Green Tea Latte? Don't skip out on the green food coloring if your green needs a lil pop!

These green foodie noms are lookin' like leprechaun bait, innit? Happy belated (or uber early! hah!) St. Patty's Day, homies!

Steph didn't believe me + Anthonette when we said that we wanted to make a day trip to Tijuana. Why the heck not? It's only a 30-minute train ride from San Diego! And Steph still didn't take us seriously as me + Anthonette talked to an informative bellhop, checked out a map, walked over to a kiosk, bought our tickets and stood at the designated platform for the train ride straight to Mexico. Only then when we started to board did Steph had a minor meltdown.

"It's dangerous in Mexico!"
I remembered Anthonette and I exchanging looks, "It's like being in a 3rd world country! We're all from 3rd world countries!"
"Trinidad does not look like Mexico. What if we end up in a Mexican jail??!"
Hmmm. I suppose the streets of Trinidad aren't the same as Nigeria or Philippines.
"Steph, what the hell are you going to do that will make you end up in a Mexican jail??!"
"You never know!"
I think at this point me and Anthonette were gawking at Steph, but honestly, in my opinion, I don't think anybody will mess with 2 black people. So I said it, "Nobody will bother us ... I'm with 2 black people!"

And with that, we hopped on the train to Mexico.

We garnered celebrity status attention while roaming Avenida Revolucion. Not because we were an unlikely trio of black-asian-black (if Nausheen was with us, we'd really be a sight to see!), but because Steph, well, looked scared shitless the whole entire time. Even after a successful haggling bid (Anthonette has some sort of weird attraction to lude souvenirs), discovering 3 margaritas for $1, pointing out every pharmacy in an attempt to cheer up our dear Steph the Pharmacist (20 in an hour!) ... home girl still wasn't having it. Not even a donkey moonlighting as a zebra could loosen up Steph. So after a few hours, we headed back to San Diego. But not without the most awkward verbal exchange ever with our sassy taxi driver before walking back into the states, which I'm sure proved Steph's point even further.

But I gotta admit, because of Steph's sourpuss attitude (sorry, hun - it was kinda comical!), this has got to be one of my more memorable and entertaining trips to Mexico. Makes for great stories! (As Anthonette had plugged into her MOH's speech at Steph's wedding years later. Can't believe I've made it in that speech!) When's the next trip to Tijuana, ladies? ... Steph? =P
