Best Maid of Honor gig. Evar.

As a second shooter. Which I actually prefer, honestly. Just lil ol' me hanging back, capturing the pure essence of happiness. No directing, no forced poses, no worries about snapping the shot. No 'Look this way' and 'Face that way' and 'Smile!' This is what I love to do, tip-toeing around unnoticed and stealing visual moments.

A few months ago I almost had an opportunity to shoot one of my dream weddings. Small outdoor hand-fasting ceremony at the Wildflower Barn in Driftwood. Halloween. Black, white and green. Sunset. Rustic/vintage vibe with pumpkins, hay bales, a fire. Is this for real?? I couldn't believe the email I was reading! (Finally attracting the unconventional clients! Yesss!) But things didn't fall through and before I got all bummed out, another dream wedding opportunity popped up. Still intimate, still unique, but in Montego Bay. Sun, ocean, beach. Yah, mon! I'll take it!

But anyways, back to the real reason why we're in Jamaica. Aside from slowly crossing off a bucket list of weddings to curate, I'm genuinely honored to be part of a handful in witnessing my 'sister' marrying her dream guy in her dream wedding at her dream destination. Hun, welcome to wedded bliss! Yah, mon.

a november beach wedding + happy (rainy) friday!

kf + jeff's wedding in jamaica.

There's so much of November I want to dive into and share and talk about! My bestie's amazing beach destination wedding in Jamaica last Sunday. The insanely fun and stress-free experience as Maid of Honor. Mini Jamaica travel misadventures. Upcoming holiday photoshoots. Creative projects I always keep bringing up, but could never just start. I want to delve into end of the year musings and ponder about 2014 dreams. I want to touch on a #tbt heartfelt sister message from the ex-sissy in laws (I love ya, Nadia + Bianca!) and find solace in aging and quell this restlessness of wanting to travel, travel, travel. I want to do what I love, and love what I do.

Such are my November highlights and conundrums.

But it's Friday. It's cold. It's rainy. It's gray. All I want to do is cuddle with the dog. Drink coffee with the roomie before she heads off to Dallas. Edit pictures. Try out a pumpkin cinnamon roll recipe. Video chat with the sister and besties. Wrap presents and cook a warm butternut squash gourmet meal with the hubsterz. Maybe watch a foreign film or two. The best kind of stay-at-home weather and activities, no?

Target denim vest // UO sweater // F21 red tribal print dress // H&M necklace // F21 booties.

One of the possible seasonal outfits I have lined up for the upcoming holiday festivities, as well as quickly becoming my fave transitional ensemble of the season thus far. And with the Texas weather being this insanely nice in November, I'm really liking it's chances in making those holiday party cameos! Everything about this outfit has been heavily remixed. Except that dress. It's new and red and tribal print. And I'm totally remix crushin' on it. I foresee it's beeyootiful remix future with other clothing items in ze wardrobe. Oh yes. Me and my remixing layers! Best thing about Fall! Besides the various autumn hues and gourds galore!

By the way, a little bit of girly, a little bit of a rocker's edge. Need more proof that opposites really do attract?

happy november friday, indeed!

happy friday, indeed!

Today, 'I solemnly swear that I am up to no good.' (Harry Pothead for life!) No photo editing, no side projects, no business emails, no classes, no exhaustive research, no Jamaica / Puerto Rico planning. Just a lil breather before the full-swing of the holiday festivities + photoshoots + projects get underway. Coffee, puppy love, hubster chats, light reading, quick errand runs, a bit o' daydreaming. It's been awhile since I had Fridays like these! Now if only there's a week full of Fridays. Hmmm. That'd be nice. Probably my best idea all week!

God of Friday, now would be a good time to do your thayng! Just sayin'.

diy // geometric phone case.

diy // geometric phone case.

Been obsessing over anything geometric lately. It's my new thayng. Throw in gold accents and pops of color and I'm stupid-in-the-head in love. Oh, yes. Swoon-worthy stuff in Jin's world! So take a wild guess what came to mind when inheriting V's old Galaxy S III (It's no iPhone, but whatevs!) and the once-clear-now-yellowish phone case that came with it. Yup, you've guessed (hopefully) right. That old phone case ain't going nowhere. 'Cause I'm cheap like that. And besides, it's still functional. Just needs a lil cosmetic TLC and a fun geometric pattern, is all!

diy // geometric phone case.

Materials // Acrylic paints of various colors. (My colors of choice: Champagne, Pure Gold + Seafoam Green.) Small paint brush. Tape. (The not-so-sticky tape works best.) Clear top coat nail polish. Nail polish remover. Q-tips.

diy // geometric phone case.

How to // 1. Tape desired geometric shapes onto cell phone case. Make sure there are no air bubbles near the edges of the tape. // 2. Dip paint brush into paint and brush away! (In this case, I started with the middle triangle first.) Wait a minute. Then brush another coat of paint. Do as many coats of paint as your lil heart desires. // 3. Immediately remove tapes and wait for paint to dry. (Drying time about 20-30 minutes.) // 4. Brush a coat of nail polish over the painted area. It's ok to brush beyond the painted area! You can always clean up the edges a bit, if you're OCD like me, with Q-tips dipped in nail polish remover. // 5. Now the hard part. The waiting game. Must wait til clear nail polish is completely dry and hard! (This may take hours depending on what kind of top coat you have.) // 6. Waiting, waiting, waiting. Go get a drink. This may take awhile. // 7. Repeat Steps 1-6 for the next geometric shape. // 8. Lastly, a second coat of clear nail polish to seal it all in is optional. But recommended. 'Cause ya never know.

Note: Don't skip a step or two. Don't do it! Trust me. I've learned the hard way, having to start over at least 4 times. That's 3 hours of my life I'll never get back! And be patient! Yes, this DIY will take all day. Maybe 2. Yes, you will get antsy. And yes, you will be glad you've waited.

Mmmmm. Loves me some yummy geometric goodness. Almost hides the fact that it's not an iPhone snuggled up in that 'new' case! Almost!

refocus + happy november!

clouds.

November, y'all. Like, whoa. And, wow. But mostly, whoa.

What the heck happened to 2013?!

You and me both, homie, you and me both. So here we are. Nearing the end of the year. Time to shake things up. Make some changes. Ride off into the sunset and never look back. After a year of testing various ideas and formats for this photoblog, I've come to realize that there are specific creative outlets I'm more passionate about than others. In the beginning I had intentions to do it all. That's right. All! Everything and anything! I am that crazy. Crazy in love with the sights and sounds and scents of life. Fast forward a year later, and while that still holds true to my curious heart, I find that I'm most eager at sharing visual moments in a story-like manner. After all, candid documentary and photojournalistic snaps is the name of my game. Best stick with something that constantly feeds inspiration for my inner Alice in Wonderland creative. So with renewed focus and motivation, 2014 is looking a bit more clearer. And simpler.
